In my effort to bring comprehensive allergy info, I would like to cover feeding guinea pigs.
Someone in my allergy group recently got a guinea pig and didn't realize that the food would be an issue for their peanut allergic DD. This is the response she received from Oxbow Animal Health:
Thank you for contacting Oxbow Animal Health with your questions. I apologize for the delayed response as we try to address all customer questions as quickly as possible. Regarding your peanut allergy question, our Oxbow Adult & Young Guinea Pig diets does NOT contain any nut products and are produced at a facility that is peanut/tree nut FREE. Depending upon the age of your new guinea pig we would recommend the Essentials Cavy Performance Young Guinea Pig Food for guinea pigs up to 6 months of age and the Essentials Cavy Cuisine Adult Guinea Pig Food for guinea pigs over 6 months of age. In addition to these two diets we also have an Organic Adult Guinea Pig diet available which also contains NO nut products and is produced at a peanut/tree nut FREE facility.

Sunflower seeds are not considered a tree nut. There are allergies to sunflower seeds, but I don't think it's very common. Actually, it is a good idea to look at pet foods and gardening supplies for peanut, tree nut, coconut, etc. ingredients! Often wild bird seed or suets have nuts too.
